Education and Training

The Clinical Research Office (CRO) Compliance Office provides initial and ongoing education and training opportunities for UF Health Cancer Center CRO staff and investigators.

The Compliance Office provides standardized training and continuing skill development for all UF Health Cancer Center CRO staff and investigators to ensure adherence to university, state and federal regulations. The Education and Training Specialist works with staff and investigators to complete initial training, and in conjunction with the Regulatory team, assists staff with maintaining required certifications. The Education and Training Specialist also works with auditors, unit managers, and directors to schedule and develop, deploy, and evaluate training resources for investigators and staff.

Initial TrainingTraining

New UF Health Cancer Center investigators and new clinical research team members are required to complete various training modules applicable to their department and role. All staff and investigators new to the UF Health Cancer Center CRO are enrolled in an online learning program consisting of institutionally mandated training as well as UF Health Cancer Center CRO essential training that provides introductory, content-specific education on topics necessary to the conduct of clinical research in oncology at the UF Health Cancer Center. Please see UF Health Cancer Center CRO Guidance Documents Onboarding and Training New Staff and Onboarding and Training New Investigators for more information.

Continuing Skill Development

CRO Monthly Educational Series

Each month, the Compliance Office invites speakers to present an hourlong session on topics in clinical research to the UF Health Cancer Center CRO staff. These topics are aligned with the Joint Task Force (JTF) Core Competency Framework for Clinical Research Professionals, and frequently, continuing education credit is offered for the maintenance of certifications provided by  Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) and Society of Clinical Research Associations (SOCRA). Some examples of past sessions include a presentation on the drug development process, elements of informed consent, and common statistical tests used in cancer research, among others. A list of past events mapped to the domains can be found on our SharePoint site. As available, recordings, slides and handouts are also saved on SharePoint for staff review.

Research Test Prep

Twice a year, the compliance office facilitates a four-week research test prep group for staff at UF Health Cancer Center CRO and other associated clinical units who are qualified to seek certification through the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) or the Society of Clinical research Associations (SOCRA). These sessions offer a chance to review testing guidelines, practice test questions, share study tips, and ask questions of certified clinical research professionals who serve as guest speakers at each session.

SOP Development

As a member of the SOP Working Group, the Education and Training Specialist facilitates the review of existing UFHCC CRO Standard Operating Procedures, Guidance Documents, and Policies as well as the creation of new documents when needed.
